KIWOCEDU(Kigezi Initiative for Women and Children Empowerment and Development- Uganda ) is a local organization founded in 2010 and legally registered in 2013 as a community based organization with Kabale District of Uganda, after two years of existence as a local umbrella group for rural women. KIWOCEDU is an umbrella organization of many grass root based women groups who have been in existence on average of 12 years and registered at different levels-parish, sub county and district, and are based in greater Kigezi.

KIWOCEDU’s strategic direction and operations are guided by its Vision; “Enhanced human wellbeing in a sustainably managed environment".

To contribute towards achieving our mission,we have several approaches that have shown progressive impact in out communities and Uganda as well


Promoting sustainable conservation and use of natural resources for the wellbeing of humanity and sustainable development 


Empowering rural women and their families to meet basic needs for improved human wellbeing and self-sustenance


Advocating for and promoting interests of vulnerable children and youths to enroll, stay and succeed in schools


Promoting gender equality through affirmative action, integration and Men for women initiatives  

Thematic areas for KIWOCEDU

KIWOCEDU’s main thematic areas include:

  • Bamboo restoration and liberation  
  •   Gender mainstreaming in biodiversity conservation
  •   Primary Health care and treatment for women, girls with surgical cases
  •   HIV/AIDS prevention and reproductive health
  •   Children rights protection
  •   Advancing education and vocational training for girls and young women
  • Sustainable Environmental ( landscape and bamboo) conservation including  Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
